There is practically nothing fresh about this concept even the premise is essentially Frankenstein taken to a global level. The plot feels to the most part like watching the second Ghost in the Shell movie. They are all based on famous people from history and literature, making everything feel like a hunt for references and derivates. The characters are nothing to remember for and the only thing that stands out is their names. The music is ok, although forgettable, while the dialogue is mostly infodumps, making the exposition very amateurish. The animation is done by studio WIT, and it looks amazing, yet overused at this point since they keep reusing the same setting in their works: An 19th century steampunk Europe, with zombies. ![]() It’s trying to retain a degree of seriousness but mostly fails because of the constant morbid imagery and the mindless explosions which is something you would expect to see in a B grade action flick. The premise is about a world where humanity can reanimate corpses and use them as cheap labors and soldiers, effectively building a strong economy around what used to be worthless. So I watched the Empire of Corpses, which belongs to the trilogy of works by the late Itoh Keikaku, dealing with all sorts of existentialism issues. 3/31/2023 0 Comments Feet clipt art![]() Clipart by Nosyrevy 1 / 14 Hands holding baby feet Clipart by Natalya12 2 / 17 Islam Muslim Religion Culture Stock Illustrations by leremy 15 / 6,378 Feet on bathroom scale with hand drawn smiling cute faces Stock Illustration by viperagp 5 / 23 Vector foot care Icon illustration. It’s hard to get up it, but when you get to the top you’re really proud and you think it’s awesome.” The goal-oriented nature of an exciting project promotes focus and organization in kids. It’s like when you’re working up a hill that has jewels at the top. Kids are motivated to finish a project because it’s exciting, so they push themselves to focus, organize, and make it happen! Featured Maker Anthony described this well during his interview, saying, “I like to code because it is sometimes complex. Programming can help establish the focus and organization it relies on, especially when working with a platform like Tynker. Video game designer James Hague reiterated this idea on his blog, writing, “To a great extent the act of coding is one of organization.” Focus and organization are key to writing good code, but can coding help develop these skills? Absolutely! How Learning to Code Develops Focus and Organization It’s challenging because kids are forced to think about how to solve a problem.” “To me,” he said, “it’s a way of organizing ideas, structural thinking, and logical thinking. Santiago, Featured Maker Nico’s dad, has a similar view of coding. The more complicated the code, the more a programmer has to organize, incorporating elements like data structures to streamline the code. In order to think through code logically, it needs to be organized in an intuitive way, and vice versa. ![]() Organization goes hand in hand with focus, especially when it comes to writing complicated code. The instant gratification found in these activities can make it difficult to focus, which makes it difficult to stay organized.Īlain, whose son Elisha uses Tynker, told us, “You speak to young kids nowadays and because of all this stimulus everywhere – billboards and movies and everything going on – the attention, the focus, just isn’t there.” Why Organization and Focus are Key to Coding Between TV shows, smartphone games, and other distractions, there’s a lot of opportunities for kids to lose focus. It’s no secret that the distractions we all face impact our ability to focus, and kids are no exception to that. Coding is a great example of an activity that requires focus and organization, but more than that, it’s a fantastic way to develop those skills. ![]() As founder and CEO Krishna Vedati told the BBC, “Our goal is not to create programmers, but to offer coding as a life skill.”įocus and organization are key to, well, everything! In a world where it’s increasingly difficult to focus, everyone could use a boost – especially kids. Although they may be difficult to measure, soft skills are vastly important for children to learn. A popular notion in the business world, soft skills encompass qualities like leadership, communication, and perseverance. So, what are soft skills anyway? A non-technical ability that nevertheless helps a person to succeed at work would be considered a soft skill – an easy way to define them is as important life skills. Welcome to this series, where we’ll explore the relationship between soft skills and coding! We’ll look at the importance of soft skills in programming, as well as how learning to code can help kids develop these skills. ![]() How Coding Develops Focus and Organization 3/31/2023 0 Comments Grim fandango remasteredTheir preservation, warts and all, can be lowlights in Grim Fandango. They’re all horrible, and the remaster had every opportunity to update the controls. You will be driving cars, maneuvering forklifts and spinning vault locks. Like Full Throttle, Grim Fandango dabbles in gameplay that’s not just your traditional point-and-click. It’s symptomatic of modern gaming that we’re entitled enough to expect safety nets, speedier play and less abstraction, but – in this case – I think it’s justified. It feels like a regression for LucasArts adventures, and when you’re blindly looking around for something, anything to progress, it can be a chore. ![]() You will probably find you missed areas too, due to the labyrinthine nature and the poor signposting of potential paths. Rubacava is a nightmare a sprawling casino complex that requires you to walk everywhere, without any fast travel or Monkey Island-style maps for you to sprint through. This combos with the frankly huge sandboxes that Grim Fandango is capable of. An ash-tray bit still bemuses me, and I lucked through it. It’s not helped by several sequences being timed – you have to perform the action in a set window of time, and that makes the chance for error slightly too high. Walkthroughs will be your friend, as I challenge almost anyone to naturally know how to use the fork-lift truck to reach an incriminating briefcase, for example. You’ll stumble across some of them – why did opening the fridge cause the tattooist to stop tattooing? – while you won’t be as lucky with others. Individual interactions between items are a mixed bag, and probably make sense in a corner of someone’s mind, somewhere. It’s a journey that spans four years, petrified forests, casino outposts and an offshore mining rig. It’s the unravelling of a conspiracy, and Manny unwittingly tugs at the frayed ends as he looks to save her. She is sold a Nine Train package thanks to her good works, but she never gets on board. Since Casablanca and Film Noir are a hefty reference, everything is upended by the arrival of a lady – Meche – who Manny soon falls in love with. There’s a Glengarry Glen Ross feeling to the start, with Manny complaining that the best customers go to Domino, putting his job on the line. The richest go on the Number Nine Train, a bullet service to the Ninth Underworld, while the poorest are vacuum-sealed into coffins, or get a walking stick and compass to make the trip themselves. ![]() Customers buy packages based on the money they were buried with, and how many good works they did in their lifetimes. You play as Manny Calavera, a salesman grim reaper, cutting open body bags and cold-selling trips to the afterlife for the Bureau of Acquisitions. 3/31/2023 0 Comments Datum vs.data![]() It is not necessarily the same angle made by "straight up," because the latter is distorted by gravitational variation over the earth. (Geodetic) latitude is the angle made by a vertical line to the horizontal. Moving in the corresponding direction on the spheroid for the same distance determines where the new point should go on the spheroid. The base point and direction allow surveyors to determine the distance and angle of any other point on the earth. A datum is usually given by a starting point and direction: it specifies where a clearly identifiable point on earth (the base point) should appear on the spheroid and it shows where a base direction, such as north, points on the spheroid at the base point. ![]() "Unprojection" expands a feature on a map and plasters it back onto the spheroid. It, too, is a mathematical operation. Projecting is an operation that mathematically distorts and shrinks a portion of the spheroid onto flat paper. Georeferencing assigns locations (in three dimensions!) to points on a spheroid. ![]() It is an idealization that does not account for local changes in topography. The spheroid models the shape of the earth's surface. Two things must happen when you draw a map: features in the real world must be "georeferenced" to a spheroid and the spheroid must be projected onto the paper. The following is excerpted from that article. Same point referenced to NAD_1983_CSRS 19.048248 26.666876 Decimal DegreesĪfter struggling with this question ten years ago, and finding many confusing things written about the topic, I published a brief article in Directions Magazine that presented an answer as simply, plainly, and accurately as I could make it. Similarly, it is possible to convert data from one datum to another without projecting it, as with the NGS's NADCON utility, which can shift coordinates from NAD27 to NAD83.Įxample of a point's coordinates referenced to different datumsĬoordinates referenced to NAD_1927_CGQ77 19.048667 26.666038 Decimal Degrees The transformations from geographic to projected coordinates are the same, but as the geographic coordinates are different depending on the datum, the resulting projected coordinates will also be different.Īlso, projecting data may result in a datum conversion as well, for example, projecting NAD_1927 data to Web Mercator will require a datum shift to WGS 84. ![]() For example, the State Plane coordinate systems can be referenced to either NAD83 and NAD27 datums. It is possible, and even common for datasets to be in the same projection, but be referenced to different datums, and therefore have different coordinate values. The datum is a integral part of the projection, as projected coordinated systems are based on geographic coordinates, which are in turn referenced to a datum. If you see data in a geographic coordinate system, such as GCS_North_American_1927, it is unprojected and is in Lat/Long, and in this case, referenced to the NAD 1927 datum.Ī Projection is a series of transformations which convert the location of points on a curved surface(the reference surface or datum) to locations on flat plane (ie transforms coordinates from one coordinate reference system to another). An example of a datum is NAD 1927, described below Ellipsoid Semimajor axis† Semiminor axis† Inverse flattening††Ĭlarke 1866 6378206.4 m 6356583.8 m 294.978698214Īll coordinates are referenced to a datum (even if it is unknown). A datum typically defines the surface (ex radius for a sphere, major axis and minor axis or inverse flattening for an ellipsoid) and the position of the surface relative to the center of the earth. Geographic coordinate systems (lat/long) are based on a spheroidal (either truly spherical or ellipsoidal) surface that approximates the surface of the earth. |
